My first poem was written as a teenager in high school and called “Unlock My Heart”. Not to give away my age, but let’s say it was a long time ago.  I shared it with my best friend at the time and it was about finding that special girl who would have the key to unlocking my heart. It was the first time I used poetry to express my feelings and guess what…I have never stopped.

My name is Michael Andrew Walters aka MAW POEMS and thankfully as I have grown and matured, so has my poetry…that’s a good thing! Over the years, I have been asked to write poems for different occasions like weddings, funerals, holidays, birthdays, births, and anniversaries. The response is always overwhelmingly positive and depending upon the occasion, quite emotional. A few years ago, I suffered two losses in my family and their deaths permanently changed the course of my life and my poetry.  In fact, the majority of my poems were written since their deaths and that number stands currently at close to 700 poems and counting. I write everyday and about everything. Whatever inspires me, whatever I read or see or hear about, whatever I feel. My poetry includes categories such as love, faith, friendship, self reflections, relationships, marriage, societal challenges, and whatever else we as humans are faced with in this life. Whats beautiful about my poetry is I don’t necessarily have to experience something to write about it and believe me, I have not. My goal is only to show others who are experiencing certain things in their life that they’re not alone. There are probably so many of us that have felt or going through the same thing.

Poetry is my passion and I believe “My Purpose In Life” granted to me by God.  Poetry is like breathing to me and so I have no choice when a poem comes to me…whether in bed, in my car, or on a run. I have to write poetry, I love to write poetry, and I want to share it with everyone…so join me and Welcome to MAW POEMS!!!

Poetry is my passion and my gift and it’s taken me a long time to fully embrace it. Now that I have, I would love the opportunity to collaborate with others who want to share their gifts. I have over 500 completed poems and well over 100 unfinished for which we could collaborate. This includes over 150 love poems, 80 faith poems, 50+ inspirational poems, 30 self reflection poems, 25 end of life poems, and poems in categories such as forgiveness/apology, friendship, first dates, marriage proposal, holidays, loss/sympathy, prayers, relationship breakups, and societal challenges.
